New Club Admitted to GDCA
Date of Event Gisborne & District Cricket Association: Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:57AM

A newly formed cricket club from Rockbank has been admitted to the association for season 2019/20. At the GDCA Annual General Meeting held on Monday 15th July, Aintree Cricket Club became the 23rd member club of the competition.

Aintree is based at the Frontier Recreation Reserve in the Woodlea Estate located to the north of the Western Highway at Rockbank. The club formed last season and ran a Woolworths Junior Blaster Program and hopes to field two senior teams in the association this season.

Sunbury Cricket Club made a presentation of the club's firsts and seconds teams move to the VTCA and were given permission by the club delegates to have their thirds and fourths and junior teams continue in GDCA competitions. Ashfield has indicated that the club is willing to field their firsts in the McIntyre Cup to fill the void left by Sunbury for the coming season.

At the Annual General Meeting, Rob McIntyre was returned as president with Garry Wilson (vice-president), Simon Ovenden (secretary) and Kevin Sullivan (treasurer) holding the executive positions. Colin Bruhn and new members, Kelly Shinn and Chris Large were elected to the remaining board positions.

Jack Code was confirmed as the newest recipient of GDCA life-membership in recognition of his 12 years of service to the association's executive and many years as president of the Woodend Cricket Club. Jack was also a keen follower of the association's representative teams and often drove the bus full of players and officials to country week matches and regional competitions.

This season marks the 100th year since the competitions of the Gisborne Cricket Association and Romsey District Cricket Association combined to form the Gisborne and District Cricket Association. Gisborne, Lancefield, Macedon, Riddell, Romsey and Lancefield Junction (now known as Clarkefield) were the first clubs to compete in the 1919/20 fixtures of the new association.
